It's World Earth Day 🌍
…Make a Small Change
Now is the perfect time to implement little changes to our lifestyle that will have a BIG impact on our environment in the long run.
This year’s theme is ‘Restore Our Earth’ with focus on green technologies and innovative thinking that can help restore our beautiful planet.
Our business is built on the desire to supply you the best of Scottish seafood from sustainable sources. Have confidence that when you choose Amity to source your seafood, you are making a choice to help protect our beautiful waters for future generations to enjoy.
You can find out more about the amazing work our fishing industry is doing to maintain and improve our sustainability in our last blog Why You Should Still Enjoy Seafood.

But aside from the amazing technologies and innovations, World Earth Day is about taking individual action and so as a business we are making a concerted effort to implement small changes that will have a big impact long term for us and our customers, including:
- Reducing our carbon footprint when it comes to deliveries by introducing daily routes and using third parties for delivery to reduce our own carbon emissions
- Reducing our fish box packaging
- Introducing dry ice to our fish boxes in place of gel packs, foil and bubble wrap
- Switching polyboxes for cardboard
- Using vac pouches for your seafood which are fully recyclable
We appreciate your patience as we manage this change – for Amity we need to balance the desire to be as green as possible with ensuring your seafood arrives in excellent condition. This involves many trials and tests to build confidence in our methods and we are almost there!

However, there are also changes YOU can make that will have a big impact such as:
- Choosing sustainable seafood – buy with confidence from independent suppliers such as Amity – we are happy to take your calls and emails regarding how seafood is sourced – all our seafood is fully traceable
- Recycle more – some items may not seem it, but they can be recycled (such as our vac pacs)!
- Walk instead of taking the car when you can – Team Amity do this often on the daily commute
- Choose sustainable fashion over fast fashion and recycle or sell clothing to avoid it ending in landfill
- Turn off your monitors at night – and your other devices. Did you know the average UK household wastes £30 a year by leaving devices on standby?
- Swap face wipes for a hot cloth and cleanser. It is also better for your skin!
- Swap plastic bags, disposable water bottles and takeaway cups for their reusable counterparts
- Choose loose fruit and veg instead of those in plastic
