Five Fish You Aren’t Eating (But You Should Be)

Five Fish You Aren't Eating
(But You Should Be)

We all have our favourite fish and seafood we like to eat and when it comes to placing an order, we tend to stick with what we know and enjoy but they do say variety is the spice of life!

Did you know we now stock over 60 different products in our online store, showcasing the best of Scottish seafood?

Part of our mission at Amity is to educate our customers on how to enjoy great seafood and encouraging you to be brave and explore new and exciting choices plays an important factor!

With that in mind, here are some great alternatives you can include in your Amity catch today:

Achey Flakey Heart

YOU LIKE: Haddock

WHY NOT TRY: Hake

If you enjoy a flakey white fish texture like haddock or cod, you’ll love Hake. Hake is also a white, flaky fish but is meatier. It makes a great healthy choice being lean; low in saturated fats and calories but high in protein and nutrients such as vitamins A, D and E. It is a mild tasting fish that gently absorbs flavours. This makes it ideal for poaching, grilling and baking with strong flavours such as curry. Give it a try!

Fit For A Queen(ie)

YOU LIKE: Panko Scampi

WHY NOT TRY: Panko Queenie Scallops

Panko Breaded Queenie Scallops are an Amity-exclusive product that have proven extremely popular since they launched. These Queenies are a different type of scallop, smaller in size than our regular scallops with roe attached.  Instead these are a delicious delicacy ready to fry straight from the freezer and form the perfect golden panko coated morsel! If you are a fan of our panko scampi these are highly recommended as a tasty alternative.

Something to Trout About

YOU LIKE: Scottish Salmon

WHY NOT TRY: Scottish Trout

This Scottish West Coast Trout has been very popular since it launched last month and coming in 400-500g fillets is proving to be fantastic value.

Like it’s salmon counterpart, trout is a delicious oily fish full of nutrients and vitamins good for both the body and mind. It is also a versatile fish because it can be cooked in many ways, so as oven-baked and pan-fried.

Why not try seasoning your trout with our luxurious Scottish Blackthorn Sea Salt Flakes ?

Get Your Skates On

YOU LIKE:  Scallops

WHY NOT TRY: Skate

If scallops and shellfish are your thing, you might enjoy Skate.

This is because Skate wings have a delicate flavour that has been compared to crab meat or scallops when cooked. Skate has a firm, fibrous flesh that is best served roasted or fried, making it more versatile a seafood than you may first think!

YOU LIKE: Lobster

WHY NOT TRY: Langoustine

Langoustines may also be known as Norway lobsters, Dublin Bay prawns and sometimes ‘scampi’ across Europe. They are practically a miniature version of a  lobster and appearance-wise they look very similar to lobsters, on a smaller scale. However, unlike lobster, they don’t change colour when cooked – instead they retain their lovely pale pink hue.

Texture-wise, langoustine are very similar to lobster but in our opinion are a more versatile seafood – you can have your langoustine whole, shell on or as peeled tails and be used in a variety of different dishes.
