They went. They saw. They conquered.
Team Amity in the form of Jimmy and Julie had a blast at the latest Seafood Expo Global, held for the first time in sunny Barcelona (not jealous AT ALL).
Now he’s back on Scottish turf and suitably siesta-ed, Jimmy has shared his thoughts on Amity’s first Expo experience:
FIRST OF ALL, WHAT IS SEAFOOD EXPO GLOBAL?
Seafood Expo Global is the world’s largest seafood trade fair, featuring more than 2,000 exhibiting companies from 89 countries. For professional seafood buyers and wholesalers, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet and do business with seafood suppliers from every corner of the globe.
WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE TRIP?
As it’s a global seafood expo, suppliers and customers use this event to network, meet in person and do business. It is also a great opportunity to gauge seafood markets and demand.
WHAT DID YOU ENJOY MOST?
The networking aspect was invaluable for us – especially after 2 years of lockdown and travel restrictions! Being able to be in the same room as other businesses, meet our suppliers and customers – it was great! It helped us get perspective on current and future challenges. Mother Nature and seasonality play a significant role in harvesting; when dealing with a wild caught product we are at the behest of what our fishermen are able to land.
WAS THERE A STAND OR EXHIBIT YOU FOUND PARTICULARY INTERESTING?
The sheer scale of this event was a total eyeopener – there was so much of the global seafood supply chain there in one place to admire and it was great to see Scotland had a significant presence on the floor.
DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING NEW IN YOUR TIME AWAY?
It is certainly a place to go to learn and observe. You leave wiser. Innovation also plays a part in this event with packaging and machinery displays. However for me, it’s the quality of the various nations’ seafood that lets you see what we are competing with. Its fascinating.
OVERALL WAS THE TRIP A SUCCESS?
For Amity, the trip was a successful networking opportunity that has opened some new doors and widened our portfolio. We have some serious leads to follow up with and already we are working on other connections we have made during our visit.
