Amity Fish Company is a seafood supplier in the Northeast of Scotland, sourcing sustainable, restaurant quality seafood.
From our base in Peterhead, Europe’s largest white fishing port, we source, prepare and deliver great Scottish seafood direct to homes and businesses across mainland UK – from our shore to your door.
With almost 50 years’ experience in the seafood industry on shore and at sea, we ensure the best available catch for our customers, every time. Provenance is important to our business; an Amity catch is one that is responsibly sourced, high quality and fully traceable.
Amity Fish Company is a proud MSC-approved supplier, keeping the chain of custody going from sea to plate. We help protect our waters for future generations to enjoy by sourcing from certified sustainable fisheries from Scotland’s impressive seafood larder.
Led by former Skipper Jimmy Buchan, star of the BAFTA-winning BBC documentary series, Trawlermen, our team use our wealth of experience and contacts in the industry to ensure our customers a high-quality catch.
Scotland boasts one of the most impressive eco-systems in the world and we are proud to supply our customers with a taste of the Northeast.
Amity originated as a B2B company, supplying fish and chip shops, restaurants and food service. But the 2020 lockdown forced us to pivot the business into supplying fish boxes direct to homes. The hospitality sector returned to trade as lockdown lifted, but demand for home deliveries remained high, and so the future of our company changed forever.
We decided to invest heavily in this side of the business with the development of a new custom-built website (which you are on now) that would greatly improve our customer experience. Our award-winning e-commerce platform allows our customers to see our full range of products and their availability, making it even easier to make a great catch!
Amityfish.co.uk went live in September 2020, 6 months after lockdown and has gone on to evolve as our business has in a post pandemic world.
Our e-commerce segment has continued to grow and so has our product range. To date we offer over 100 seafood products (we started with 6 langoustine variations).
Now with an onsite shop, our product range has evolved to include a choice selection of larder products by smaller artisan producers, which can also be shipped to our customers across the UK.
As part of our selection, Amity offer customers 3 exclusively developed award-winning products, developed from our experience in the Scottish fishing industry:
Jimmy is the Managing Director of Amity Fish Company. Having lived in Peterhead all his life, Jimmy knows a thing or two about fish – he has over 40 years’ fishing experience, and 30 years’ experience as a skipper! He left school in 1976 to pursue a career as a fisherman and in 1986 Jimmy bought his first trawler, named ‘Amity’, which means friendship. Since then he has learned to adapt and change to meet the challenges and opportunities of the industry. In 2006 Jimmy and his crew starred in the BAFTA award-winning BBC TV documentary Trawlermen’, which showcased the challenges experienced within the Scottish fishing industry to the world. After three decades in the wheelhouse, Jimmy came onshore and set up his own seafood supply company and continues to manage both business to business and business to consumer trade. Jimmy always keeps himself (a bit too) busy, working both behind the scenes of Amity Fish Co as well as interacting with customers and attending events all over the UK. In addition to running Amity Fish Company, Jimmy is CEO of the Scottish Seafood Association and is a hardworking ambassador for the sector continuing to promote the seafood industry locally and abroad. In his (rare) spare time Jimmy can usually be found on the golf course or spending time with his family and granddaughter.
Julie is our Operations Manager and head of Business Development, balancing a busy role with a hectic schedule of spending time with her husband and their two boys Finlay and Alfie, playing netball and running. Julie has had 18 years of experience in retail banking and has worked as an Area Manager. She joined Amity Fish Co in April 2018 and her aim is to develop the business to reach its full potential. As a result she is constantly working on building great relationships with clients, as well as ensuring Amity Fish Co sails in smooth waters day to day. Julie is always happy to help our trade clients decide the right product for them and provide helpful information in response to any queries we receive.
Stella joined the Amity Team in 2019 and has proved a major asset to the business since, being the team’s wizard on all things finance and the voice of reason! As well as being great at keeping the team up to speed with the position of the business, she is also great at keeping Jimmy organised with her detailed lists. Stella juggles her Amity role with spending time with her family – husband Craig and boys Nathan and Nicholas. In her spare time she can often be seen on her paddle board!
Marie is Amity Fish Company’s logistics delivery driver and is tasked with the important job of packing and transporting our products to customers. She was the first team member to join Amity, her job is a key step in the journey of an Amity product from shore to door as she must make sure our customers remain satisfied and deliveries are made on time. Never has this role been more important than during the pandemic – Marie played a key role in ensuring our customers had access to great seafood without leaving their homes. Marie is the face of our business when it comes to delivering our products and greeting customers, and is always happy to stop for a friendly chat and engage with the businesses we supply to.
Jimmy’s daughter Jenna joined the business in 2020. It’s Jenna’s job to ensure the Amity brand is seen online and that our customers are kept up to date with our latest products and news. Jenna manages Amity’s social media accounts and is always working to build our presence online and in the media. She enjoys building good relationships our clients and collaborators to broaden the reach of the business. As a new mum, Jenna has been managing this role alongside looking after her little girl (Jimmy’s granddaughter), Thea.
