Led by industry leader Jimmy Buchan, star of the BBC’s BAFTA award-winning Trawlermen TV series, the Amity team source only the best catch from the icy waters around the Scottish coastline using over 40 years of experience in the fishing industry. Jimmy’s hands-on approach ensures nothing slips under the net.
The quality of the catch landed is not only consistently high but the onshore processing facilities are second to none. Jimmy’s partners can call on highly experienced and accredited experts in processing and fish-smoking, ensuring that every piece of seafood is selected and prepared by the real professionals.
Amity Fish Company is also proud to be an approved MSC supplier, keeping the chain of custody from sea to plate. Already supplying the offshore sector with MSC certified fish, Amity is a great advocate of championing the responsible fishing scheme which is an industry approved standard that vessels need to attain. Well known within the industry, Amity provides an opportunity to seek and source your chosen seafood so that you have the confidence to promote the best Scottish seafood in your business. In buying into Amity, you are buying into a wealth of experience – let us take quality control like no other and guaranteed sustainability from our shore to your door.
Jimmy is the Managing Director of Amity Fish Company. Having lived in Peterhead all his life, Jimmy knows a thing or two about fish – he has over 40 years’ fishing experience, and 30 years’ experience as a skipper! He left school in 1976 to pursue a career as a fisherman and in 1986 Jimmy bought his first trawler, named ‘Amity’, which means friendship. Since then he has learned to adapt and change to meet the challenges and opportunities of the industry. In 2006 Jimmy and his crew starred in the BAFTA award-winning BBC TV documentary Trawlermen’, which showcased the challenges experienced within the Scottish fishing industry to the world. After three decades in the wheelhouse, Jimmy came onshore and set up his own seafood supply company and continues to manage both business to business and business to consumer trade. Jimmy always keeps himself (a bit too) busy, working both behind the scenes of Amity Fish Co as well as interacting with customers and attending events all over the UK. In addition to running Amity Fish Company, Jimmy is CEO of the Scottish Seafood Association and is a hardworking ambassador for the sector continuing to promote the seafood industry locally and abroad. In his (rare) spare time Jimmy can usually be found on the golf course or spending time with his family and granddaughter.
